Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, boasts beautiful nature and many famous sights, and has long been known as a town where woodworking, including Shogi pieces, flourishes. Just as people have individuality, each type of wood has its own unique character, such as strength, weight, color, and grain. Tendo Mokko's commitment to wood is to dialogue with wood, loving, training, and creating beautiful and functional pieces. ・Teak Wood One of the world's three most famous woods, alongside walnut and mahogany. It is often used in stylish, design-conscious furniture known as vintage, especially in Nordic-style furniture designed in large numbers from the 1960s to the 1970s. Teak wood, also known as the jewel of wood, is a general term for deciduous trees in the Lamiaceae family, and is a luxurious wood that grows mainly in tropical regions of Southeast Asia, such as Myanmar and Indonesia. Teak wood contains oily wood tar (oil), making it water-resistant and insect-resistant, which is why it was used on luxury liners like the Queen Elizabeth 2 and the Orient Express. Today, logging is prohibited in most areas, making it available only in vintage furniture, and it is extremely rare, with older wood being considered more valuable.
